Course Overview:
Discover the art of cabochon cutting and bezel setting in a three‑week hands‑on course with lapidary artist Sarah Reece. Whether you're a beginner or have some experience, Sarah will guide you through each step: cutting, polishing, and setting your own gemstone cabochons.
Meet Your Tutor:
Sarah Reece is an experienced jeweller and Lapidary Artist with a background from top UK institutions including Central Saint Martins, City & Islington, and Sir John Cass. She holds a Master’s degree in Jewellery from the University for the Creative Arts.
While living in the Middle East, Sarah discovered the art of stone-cutting, turning it into a full-time practice and a deep-rooted passion for gemstones and craftsmanship.
She now shares her expertise through hands-on, engaging lapidary courses designed to inspire both beginners and those looking to refine their skills.
💎 Week 1 – Intro to Cabochons
Select from a choice of pre‑cut gemstone shapes (included).
Learn how to cut and polish up to four cabochons using lapidary wheels.
Choose your slab or shape to work on in Week 2 * Upgrade option available for premium slabs (extra cost).
Optional Add‑On: Book a one‑on‑one “slab up” tutorial with Sarah (£100 1.5hrs) to prep your slab—custom‑shape it ready for next week *materials extra. Please contact us separately from your booking to arrange
💎Week 2 – Cutting from Slabs
Return to cut and polish your chosen slab material under Sarah’s expert guidance.
Work at your pace, create cabochons with your own unique shapes and patterns.
💎Week 3 – Bezel Setting
Learn the fundamentals of silver bezel‑setting techniques.
Set your cabochons into simple, hand‑crafted bezel set Silver Jewellery. (Silver and bezel materials charged separately.)
What to Bring:
Apron and closed-toe shoes
Notepad and pen for notes & sketching
We will provide Safety equipment, such as goggles as required

Due to the nature of workshop, we cannot permit any one under the age of 16 to take part in the classes unless assessed and agreed in advance by the tutor.
